SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 17
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Matthew Young
 
         WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of
  Matthew Thomas Young of Lindale, who passed away on
  January 5, 2025, at the age of 49; and
         WHEREAS, Born on March 19, 1975, in Paris, to Tom and
  Debbie Young, Matt Young grew up with the companionship of two
  sisters, Jessica and Kathleen; in 1993, he graduated as
  salutatorian from Sulphur Springs High School, where he was a
  member of the student council as well as the football and
  basketball teams; he went on to receive a bachelor's degree in
  kinesiology from The University of Texas at Austin; and
         WHEREAS, After college, Mr. Young embarked on a rewarding
  career in education that spanned 27 years; along the way, he
  worked at high schools in Sulphur Springs, Gainesville, Denton,
  Cooper, and Van, where he taught a variety of math classes and
  coached football, track, basketball, and baseball; he further
  served his profession as a member of the Texas High School
  Coaches Association; and
         WHEREAS, In 2001, Mr. Young married the former Jamie
  McGraw; the couple shared a fulfilling union that spanned more
  than two decades and were the proud parents of five children,
  Rorie, Khira, Tate, Zack, and Kymora; a man of faith, Mr. Young
  was a devoted congregant of First United Methodist Church in Mt.
  Sylvan, and in his leisure time, he enjoyed cooking, reading,
  playing golf, hosting dinner and game nights, and traveling with
  loved ones; and
         WHEREAS, While Matt Young will be deeply missed, his
  contributions as an educator, a family man, and a valued member
  of his community will long be treasured by all those who had the
  good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life
  of Matthew Thomas Young and extend sincere sympathy to the
  members of his family: to his wife, Jamie Young; to his children,
  Rorie, Khira, Tate, Zack, and Kymora Young; to his parents, Tom
  and Debbie Young; to his sisters, Jessica Swatsell and her
  husband, Chad, and Kathleen Wade and her husband, A. B.; to his
  in-laws, Jimmie and Renee McGraw; and to his many other relatives
  and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
  this day, it do so in memory of Matt Young.
