SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 20

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Mari Santos, who has been honored as the 2025 Class 5A Dean Weese Outstanding Coach; and

WHEREAS, One of the most prestigious honors in Texas high school basketball, this annual award is presented by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches to recognize coaches who go above and beyond in their leadership and commitment to student athletes; and

WHEREAS, Mari Santos leads Alice High School's Lady Coyotes basketball team with exceptional skill and dedication, and under her guidance, the team persevered to reach the 2024-2025 University Interscholastic League Class 5A playoffs; and

WHEREAS, Admired for her sincere investment in the well-being of her students and athletes, Coach Santos is a trusted mentor and role model and has imparted wisdom and guidance that fosters confidence and success in every facet of life for the young women she coaches; and

WHEREAS, Mari Santos represents the highest ideals of a Texas high school coach; her selection as a recipient of a Dean Weese Outstanding Coach award and her notable achievements are a source of pride to her colleagues, the Coastal Bend community, and the Lone Star State, and it is truly fitting that she receive recognition on her exemplary contributions to Alice High School and Texas athletics; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend Mari Santos on her distinguished coaching career and extend to her congratulations on being named the 2025 Class 5A Dean Weese Outstanding Coach; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
