Jane Hotze |
|
|
WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of Jane Smith Hotze of |
|
Houston were deeply saddened by her death on June 18, 2025, at the |
|
age of 76; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of Raymond and Margaret Smith, the |
|
former Janie Smith was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on April 1, |
|
1949, and she grew up with the companionship of six siblings, |
|
Raymond, Peggy, Debbie, Nancy, Melissa, and Tommy; in 1957, she |
|
moved with her family to Houston, where she attended the Duchesne |
|
Academy of the Sacred Heart and later became a cheerleader at St. |
|
Thomas High School; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She wed her high school sweetheart, Steve Hotze, |
|
before entering college in 1968, and the couple went on to share a |
|
fulfilling union that spanned 57 years; Mrs. Hotze devoted |
|
herself to her home and family throughout their marriage, and she |
|
took great pride in their 8 children, David, Mary Beth, |
|
Catherine, Sarah, Paul, Patrick, Deborah, and Rebekah; with the |
|
passing years, she had the pleasure of welcoming 26 |
|
grandchildren, to whom she was a constant source of guidance and |
|
support; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Sustained by a strong faith, Mrs. Hotze inspired |
|
all those around her with her unwavering conviction and |
|
positivity; she cherished trips with her children to visit her |
|
parents and siblings in Tampa, Florida, as well as annual family |
|
retreats to Sea Island, Georgia, where she spent many happy hours |
|
playing bingo, reading on the beach, and dancing with her |
|
grandchildren; her life was further enriched by the many joyful |
|
memories she made while hosting loved ones at her family farm in |
|
New Ulm; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Janie Hotze lived a caring and purposeful life |
|
centered around her family and her faith, and she will long be |
|
remembered with deep affection by all who knew her; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
of Jane Smith Hotze and extend sincere condolences to the members |
|
of her family: to her husband, Dr. Steven Hotze; to her children, |
|
Mary Beth Burrow and her husband, Tommy, Catherine Cagle and her |
|
husband, Paul, Sarah Liuzzi and her husband, Matthew, Paul Hotze |
|
and his wife, Chloe, Patrick Hotze and his wife, Laura, Deborah |
|
McInnes and her husband, John, and Rebekah Gorder and her |
|
husband, Casey; to her grandchildren, Thomas, Benjamin, Cate, |
|
and Bradley Burrow, Janie, Emily, and Margaret Cagle, Read, |
|
Elisabeth Jane, Peter, and Eloise Liuzzi, Emma, Harper, and |
|
Rebecca Jane Hotze, Logan, Margaux Jane, and Barrett Hotze, |
|
Mollie, Annie Cate, Forrest, and Banks McInnes, and William, |
|
David, Grayson, and Charlotte Jane Gorder; to her siblings, Peggy |
|
and Tommy Smith, Debbie Hibberts, Nancy Hankin, and Melissa |
|
Wetzel; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it |
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|
this day, it do so in memory of Janie Hotze. |
