Marion VanDevender |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort |
|
|
those saddened by the death of Marion Patricia VanDevender of |
|
|
Atlanta on July 27, 2025, at the age of 83; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of E. L. and Elva Caron Cumberland, |
|
|
Pat VanDevender was born on May 23, 1942, in Kemper County, |
|
|
Mississippi, and grew up with the companionship of two sisters, |
|
|
Kaye and Peggy; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. VanDevender went on to share a rewarding |
|
|
65-year marriage with her husband, Gerald, and she took great |
|
|
pride in their four children, Doug, Brad, Jan, and Todd; with the |
|
|
passing years, she had the privilege of seeing her family grow to |
|
|
include 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A woman of faith, Mrs. VanDevender was a valued |
|
|
congregant of First Baptist Church in Atlanta; in her leisure |
|
|
hours, she enjoyed reading, cooking, and sewing; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, While her loss is difficult to bear, Pat |
|
|
VanDevender leaves behind numerous friends and loved ones whose |
|
|
lives are far richer for having known her, and she will forever |
|
|
hold a treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
|
of Marion Patricia VanDevender and extend heartfelt sympathy to |
|
|
the members of her family: to her husband, Gerald VanDevender; to |
|
|
her sons, Doug VanDevender and his wife, Sarah Jo, and Brad |
|
|
VanDevender; to her daughter, Jan Giles; to her sisters, Kaye |
|
|
Johnson and her husband, Doug, and Peggy Nowell and her husband, |
|
|
Larry Wayne; to her grandchildren, Amber Jaynes, Trevor Giles, |
|
|
Miranda Champion, Elizabeth Giles, Meagan Thomas, and Tyler |
|
|
VanDevender; to her great-grandchildren; and to her other |
|
|
relatives and many friends; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|
|
this day, it do so in memory of Pat VanDevender. |
