R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort |
|
those saddened by the death of Marion Patricia VanDevender of |
|
Atlanta on July 27, 2025, at the age of 83; and |
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of E. L. and Elva Caron Cumberland, Pat |
|
VanDevender was born on May 23, 1942, in Kemper County, |
|
Mississippi, and grew up with the companionship of two sisters, |
|
Kaye and Peggy; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. VanDevender went on to share a rewarding |
|
65-year marriage with her husband, Gerald, and she took great pride |
|
in their four children, Doug, Brad, Jan, and Todd; with the passing |
|
years, she had the privilege of seeing her family grow to include 6 |
|
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, A woman of faith, Mrs. VanDevender was a valued |
|
congregant of First Baptist Church in Atlanta; in her leisure |
|
hours, she enjoyed reading, cooking, and sewing; and |
|
WHEREAS, While her loss is difficult to bear, Pat VanDevender |
|
leaves behind numerous friends and loved ones whose lives are far |
|
richer for having known her, and she will forever hold a treasured |
|
place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature, 2nd |
|
Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Marion Patricia |
|
VanDevender and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of her |
|
family: to her husband, Gerald VanDevender; to her sons, Doug |
|
VanDevender and his wife, Sarah Jo, and Brad VanDevender; to her |
|
daughter, Jan Giles; to her sisters, Kaye Johnson and her husband, |
|
Doug, and Peggy Nowell and her husband, Larry Wayne; to her |
|
grandchildren, Amber Jaynes, Trevor Giles, Miranda Champion, |
|
Elizabeth Giles, Meagan Thomas, and Tyler VanDevender; to her |
|
great-grandchildren; and to her other relatives and many friends; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this |
|
day, it do so in memory of Pat VanDevender. |
