SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is  pleased to
  recognize Colonel Stefanie Watkins Nance on her 21 years of
  distinguished military service and her exemplary leadership at
  Joint Base San Antonio; and
         WHEREAS, A native of New York, Stefanie Watkins Nance
  earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from the University of
  Southern California and a doctor of medicine from Howard
  University; she entered active duty with the United States Air
  Force in 2004 and completed her first residency in pediatrics at
  Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio and five additional years
  as the sole staff pediatrician at Goodfellow Air Force Base in
  San Angelo; and
         WHEREAS, This devoted surgeon and administrator earned
  recognition as chief of medical staff for the 82nd Medical Group
  at Sheppard Air Force Base, and she went on to earn a master's
  degree in public health from The University of Texas at Austin in
  2015 while contributing her expertise as a legislative aide for
  Senator Royce West; and
         WHEREAS, In the course of her distinguished career,
  Colonel Watkins Nance has attained certification as an aerospace
  medicine specialist and as a certified physician executive, and
  she has provided pivotal leadership in operational medicine,
  aerospace medicine, and public health roles throughout such
  major events as the COVID-19 pandemic and the United States' 
  withdrawal from Afghanistan; and
         WHEREAS, Colonel Watkins Nance was assigned to Joint Base
  San Antonio in August of 2023 to serve as a medical member of the
  Formal Physical Education Board, and she is retiring as
  department chair of Primary Care Services at the 59th Medical
  Operations Group, where she has provided strategic, clinical,
  and administrative direction for the Air Force's largest
  military treatment facility and sole ambulatory surgical center
  since September of 2024; and
         WHEREAS, A highly decorated medical expert, Colonel
  Watkins Nance is a member of numerous professional associations
  and has earned highly revered awards and decorations, including a
  Meritorious Service Award with three oak leaf clusters and the
  Chief of the Medical Staff Commitment to Excellence Award; her
  work has advanced military medical readiness, strengthened
  health policy, and expanded access to quality health care for
  countless service members and their families, and she is truly
  deserving of recognition for her more than two decades of
  patriotic service; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
  Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend Colonel Stefanie
  Watkins Nance on her exemplary career of service and her devotion
  in the line of duty and extend to her best wishes in all her
  endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
