Bonnalee Asbury |
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |
|
memories of Bonnalee Pell Asbury of Longview, who passed away on |
|
August 8, 2025, at the age of 97; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Born on December 23, 1927, in Rockford, Illinois, |
|
to William and Marjorie Pell, the former Bonnalee Pell grew up on |
|
a farm with the companionship of her older brother, William; |
|
after graduating from East Rockford High School in 1945, she |
|
earned an associate's degree from Blackburn College in |
|
Carlinville in May 1947; while there, she met the love of her |
|
life, James William Asbury, with whom she exchanged wedding vows |
|
on May 29, 1948; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The newlyweds moved to Champagne, Illinois, where |
|
Mrs. Asbury worked for Sullivan Chevrolet while her husband |
|
pursued an engineering degree at the University of Illinois; in |
|
1950, the couple made their home in Hastings, Nebraska, and they |
|
went on to raise four children in that community, William, |
|
Katherine, James, and Thomas; Mr. Asbury's career subsequently |
|
took them to Longview in 1983; she and her husband shared an |
|
extraordinary 72 years of marriage until his passing in 2020; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, Mrs. Asbury's cherished family |
|
grew to include seven grandchildren, Brett, Tom, Jon, Ben, |
|
Kristen, Evan, and Elizabeth, along with several |
|
great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; a woman of |
|
strong faith, she was an active member of the First United |
|
Methodist Churches in both Hastings and Longview, and she enjoyed |
|
taking part in Bible study and prayer groups; she also found |
|
great fulfillment in volunteering, and her favorite pastimes |
|
included traveling and playing golf with her husband; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Bonnalee Asbury led a caring and purposeful life, |
|
and her loss is keenly felt by all who were touched by her |
|
affection and friendship; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
of Bonnalee Pell Asbury and extend sincere sympathy to the |
|
members of her family: to her children, William Asbury and his |
|
wife, Luanne, Katherine Schnake and her husband, Marc, and James |
|
Asbury and his wife, Cathy; to her grandchildren, Brett Asbury |
|
and his wife, Jen, Tom Asbury and his wife, Keely, Jon Schnake, |
|
Ben Schnake and his wife, Jess, Kristen Madsen and her husband, |
|
Craig, Evan Asbury and his wife, Rachel, and Elizabeth Briggs and |
|
her husband, Thomas; to her great-grandchildren, Will, Luca, |
|
Hudson, and Casey Asbury and Genevieve and Annabelle Briggs; to |
|
her step-great-grandchildren, Damon and Tucker Atkinson and |
|
Christian and Bowen Madsen; to her brother, William Pell; and to |
|
her other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|
this day, it do so in memory of Bonnalee Asbury. |
