SENATE RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
citizens of Laredo in mourning the loss of William N. Young Jr., |
|
who died July 26, 2025, at the age of 73; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Laredo on October 22, 1951, Bill remained |
|
a lifelong resident of the community he so greatly cherished; he |
|
attended Laredo United High School, where he excelled as an |
|
athlete in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field |
|
and was a valued member of the school band; and |
|
WHEREAS, Bill enjoyed a variety of career pursuits, which |
|
he approached with his characteristic energy and dedication; he |
|
served as an athletic coach at his alma mater for a time and |
|
worked on weekends as a disc jockey for KGNS radio; he found |
|
success as a car salesman and as a produce salesman, and he was a |
|
pioneering hydroponic agriculturalist; Bill found great reward |
|
in serving his community and country as a United States Customs |
|
and Immigration agent, a role which he carried out with pride and |
|
integrity; and |
|
WHEREAS, Following his retirement, Mr. Young remained |
|
active in civic life and served as chairman of the Webb County |
|
Republican Party from 2018 to 2021; he was an avid outdoorsman |
|
who enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he later returned to his |
|
agricultural roots and devoted his efforts to cultivating |
|
moringa plants and tending his land; and |
|
WHEREAS, Noted for his warmth, kindness, and engaging |
|
sense of humor, Bill Young was a friend to countless people; he |
|
cherished the life he shared with his devoted wife, Leslie, their |
|
daughters, Charlotte, Victoria, and Sapphire, his son-in-law, |
|
Cole Garlick, and his grandson, Julius, who all enriched his life |
|
immeasurably; though he will be deeply missed, his memory will be |
|
forever treasured by his many loved ones and by the community he |
|
served with unwavering commitment; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life |
|
of William N. Young Jr. and extend sincere condolences to his |
|
bereaved family; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Bill Young. |
