Jack Jones Jr. |
|
|
WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew |
|
to a close with the passing of H. A. "Jack" Jones Jr. of Mineola |
|
on July 31, 2025, at the age of 94; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Jack Jones was born on July 4, 1931, and he and his |
|
sister were raised in Corsicana by his mother and his |
|
grandmother; answering his nation's call to duty, he was |
|
commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy and served as an |
|
explosive ordnance disposal specialist and underwater demolition |
|
diver; after retiring from the navy, he embarked on a second |
|
career as a facilities manager for the Internal Revenue Service |
|
in Richardson; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Jones shared a rewarding marriage with his |
|
wife, Peggy Copeland Jones, that spanned many years before her |
|
passing in 2016; Mr. Jones took great pride in their two sons, |
|
Wade and Brian, and over the years, his treasured family grew to |
|
include two grandchildren, Chad and Kasey, and a |
|
great-granddaughter, Jasey; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Jones relocated to |
|
Mineola, where Mr. Jones served two terms on the city council, |
|
became active in the Kiwanis Club, and supported the |
|
construction of the Peggy & Jack Jones Pavilion at the Mineola |
|
Civic Center; in recognition of his many contributions to his |
|
community, he was named the 2017 Man of the Year by the Rotary |
|
Club of Mineola and the 2017 Humanitarian of the Year by the |
|
Pilot Club of Mineola; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In his leisure hours, Mr. Jones took pleasure in |
|
hunting, fishing, shopping at garage sales, and trading at gun |
|
shows; he was a member of First Methodist Church-Mineola, where |
|
he participated in the Seekers Sunday school class, Methodist |
|
Men, and numerous other initiatives; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his |
|
country, Jack Jones earned the lasting respect and admiration of |
|
all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
of H. A. "Jack" Jones Jr. and extend sincere condolences to the |
|
members of his family: to his son, Brian Jones; to his niece, Daun |
|
Hartrim; to his nephew, Brit Purifoy; to his grandchildren, Chad |
|
and Kasey Jones; to his great-granddaughter, Jasey Brown; and to |
|
his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|
this day, it do so in memory of Jack Jones. |
