Guadalupe Martinez |
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their |
|
memories of Guadalupe B. Martinez of Cotulla, who passed away on |
|
May 27, 2025, at the age of 91; and |
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of Manuel Briones and Nieves |
|
Guerrero, this beloved woman was born in Linares, Nuevo León, |
|
Mexico, on August 27, 1933; she grew up with the companionship of |
|
five younger siblings, Josefina, Ezequiel, Alejandro, Antonio, |
|
and Cristobal, and she began working at the age of 15; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Martinez was employed for many years as a |
|
migrant farm worker, and she traveled to Michigan, Ohio, |
|
Wisconsin, Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida to help support |
|
her family; a longtime, civically engaged resident of Cotulla, |
|
she helped with voter registration during her tenure with the |
|
Raza Unida Party and she served as president of the Nueva Vida |
|
organization; additionally, she worked with Iglesia Primera |
|
Bautista Fellowship church for more than 50 years, and she was a |
|
cook for the La Salle County Elderly Nutrition Center; and |
|
WHEREAS, For a decade and a half, Mrs. Martinez was blessed |
|
with the love and support of her first husband, Filiberto Martinez; |
|
following his death in 1970, she was fortunate enough to find love |
|
again, and she and her second husband, Ernesto Consuegra, shared a |
|
rewarding marriage until his passing in 1999; Mrs. Martinez was the |
|
devoted mother of 7 children, Jose, Melba, Domingo, Maria, Josefa, |
|
Ernesto, and Josefina Martinez, who preceded her in death, and with |
|
the passage of time, she welcomed 27 grandchildren, 63 |
|
great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren into her |
|
family; her interests included gardening and raising chickens; and |
|
WHEREAS, Admired for her passion and generosity, Guadalupe |
|
Martinez lived a caring and purposeful life, and she leaves |
|
behind a record of service that her loved ones can remember with |
|
pride; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
of Guadalupe B. Martinez and extend heartfelt condolences to the |
|
members of her family: to her children, Jose Martinez and his |
|
wife, Susan Carlson, Melba Martinez, Domingo Martinez, Maria de |
|
Jesus Martinez, Josefa Consuegra, and Ernesto Consuegra and his |
|
wife, Jennifer; to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and |
|
great-great-grandchildren; to her brother, Cristobal Briones; |
|
and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|
this day, it do so in memory of Guadalupe Martinez. |
