A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to advanced placement courses that may be offered by a |
|
school district. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 28.0091 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 28.0091. ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSE STANDARDS. (a) A |
|
school district may offer an advanced placement course only if the |
|
course complies with: |
|
(1) the school laws of this state; and |
|
(2) the essential knowledge and skills adopted by the |
|
State Board of Education for the applicable subject area. |
|
(b) The State Board of Education shall review each advanced |
|
placement course offered by a school district to ensure compliance |
|
with this section. |
|
SECTION 2. Section 28.023, Education Code, is amended by |
|
adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|
(a-1) For purposes of this section, a board of trustees may |
|
approve only an advanced placement examination that is for an |
|
advanced placement course offered in accordance with Section |
|
28.0091. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 |
|
school year. |
|
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
