A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a designation on a person's driver's license or personal |
|
|
identification certificate that the person is a registered sex |
|
|
offender. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 521, Transportation Code, |
|
|
is amended by adding Section 521.1231 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 521.1231. SEX OFFENDER DESIGNATION. On receipt of a |
|
|
court order issued under Article 42.016, Code of Criminal |
|
|
Procedure, the department shall include on each driver's license or |
|
|
personal identification certificate issued to the person who is the |
|
|
subject of the court order a designation that shows the person is |
|
|
subject to the registration requirements of Chapter 62, Code of |
|
|
Criminal Procedure. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 521.1231, Transportation Code, as added |
|
|
by this Act, applies only to a driver's license issued or renewed on |
|
|
or after the effective date of this Act. A driver's license issued |
|
|
or renewed before the effective date of this Act is governed by the |
|
|
law in effect when the license was issued or renewed, and the former |
|
|
law is continued in effect for that purpose. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
