A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to employment restrictions for certain former county or |
|
municipal officers and employees. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 171, Local Government Code, is amended |
|
by adding Section 171.008 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 171.008. EMPLOYMENT FOR CERTAIN FORMER COUNTY OR |
|
MUNICIPAL OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES RESTRICTED. (a) Except as |
|
provided by Subsection (b), a former county or municipal officer or |
|
employee who during the period of county or municipal service or |
|
employment participated on behalf of the county or municipality in |
|
a contract negotiation or procurement involving a person may not |
|
accept employment from that person before the second anniversary of |
|
the date the contract is signed or the procurement is terminated or |
|
withdrawn. |
|
(b) The governing body of a county or municipality may, on |
|
an individual basis, waive the applicability of the prohibition |
|
under Subsection (a) for a former county or municipal officer or |
|
employee who submits to the governing body an application for a |
|
waiver from the prohibition in the form and manner the governing |
|
body requires. |
|
SECTION 2. Section 171.008, Local Government Code, as added |
|
by this Act, applies only to a county or municipal officer or |
|
employee whose service or employment with a county or municipality |
|
ceases on or after the effective date of this Act. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
