A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to protection of officers engaged in investigation of |
|
|
election offenses. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 273.001, Election Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding subsection (f) to read as follows: |
|
|
(f) An offense under this code does not apply to person who |
|
|
is a peace officer or prosecutor of this state engaged in an |
|
|
investigation or prosecution of a violation of a law under this |
|
|
code, when conduct is: |
|
|
(1) authorized by the person's law enforcement agency, |
|
|
and |
|
|
(2) in furtherance of an official investigation. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
