A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the issuance of an original, renewal, corrected, or |
|
|
duplicate driver's license. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 521.002, Transportation Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 521.002. CONVENIENCE TO PUBLIC. (a) The department |
|
|
shall implement its duties under this chapter in the manner that |
|
|
provides the greatest convenience to the public. |
|
|
(b) If a person who is otherwise eligible for the issuance |
|
|
of an original, renewal, corrected, or duplicate driver's license |
|
|
under this chapter applies in person at a driver's license office, |
|
|
the department shall issue the license at the time of application. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Notwithstanding Section 521.002(b), |
|
|
Transportation Code, as added by this Act, the Department of Public |
|
|
Safety is not required to comply with that section before January 1, |
|
|
2026. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
