A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
| |
|
|
relating to a public school policy for establishing age for |
|
|
purposes of admission into the school for certain children of |
|
|
foreign military members. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 25.001, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (c-3) to read as follows: |
|
|
(c-3) Notwithstanding Subsections (a) and (b), the board of |
|
|
trustees of a school district may adopt a policy to allow a person |
|
|
whose parent or guardian is an active-duty member of a foreign |
|
|
military force stationed in this state to establish the person's |
|
|
age for purposes of determining eligibility under those subsections |
|
|
by demonstrating that the person will turn the required age during |
|
|
the school year for which the person is seeking admission. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
