A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to designating May 24 as Victims of the Uvalde Shooting |
|
Day. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 662, Government Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 662.088 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 662.088. VICTIMS OF THE UVALDE SHOOTING DAY. (a) May |
|
24 is Victims of the Uvalde Shooting Day in honor of the children |
|
and teachers who were killed in Uvalde, Texas, on May 24, 2022. |
|
(b) Victims of the Uvalde Shooting Day is in memory of the |
|
following 21 victims: Makenna Lee Elrod, Layla Marie Salazar, |
|
Maranda Gail Mathis, Nevaeh Alyssa Bravo, Jose Manuel Flores Jr., |
|
Xavier James Lopez, Tess Marie Mata, Rojelio Fernandez Torres, |
|
Eliahna "Ellie" Amyah Garcia, Eliahna Cruz Torres, Annabell |
|
Guadalupe Rodriguez, Jacklyn Jaylen Cazares, Uziyah Sergio Garcia, |
|
Jayce Carmelo Luevanos, Maite Yuleana Rodriguez, Jailah Nicole |
|
Silguero, Irma Linda Garcia, Eva Mireles, Amerie Jo Garza, |
|
Alexandria "Lexi" Aniyah Rubio, and Alithia Haven Ramirez. |
|
(c) Victims of the Uvalde Shooting Day shall be regularly |
|
observed by appropriate ceremonies and activities. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
