A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to parental notice of certain changes relating to a school |
|
|
district student's teacher. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 26, Education Code, is amended by adding |
|
|
Section 26.014 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 26.014. RIGHT TO NOTICE OF CERTAIN CHANGES RELATING TO |
|
|
STUDENT'S TEACHER. A school district shall provide notice as soon |
|
|
as practicable to a parent of a student enrolled in the district |
|
|
that a teacher or long-term substitute teacher, as defined by |
|
|
commissioner rule, to whom the student is assigned has: |
|
|
(1) formally changed the teacher's name with the |
|
|
district in accordance with district procedures; |
|
|
(2) been replaced; |
|
|
(3) been moved to a new assignment; or |
|
|
(4) been terminated from employment. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
