A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the payment of an award for certain health care expenses |
|
|
under the Crime Victims' Compensation Act. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Article 56B.104, Code of Criminal Procedure, is |
|
|
amended by adding Subsection (e) to read as follows: |
|
|
(e) Notwithstanding any other law, not later than the 10th |
|
|
day after the date on which an application for compensation |
|
|
described by Article 56B.051 is filed, the attorney general shall |
|
|
award compensation to the victim or claimant in the amount of any |
|
|
copays paid for health care services obtained as a result of the |
|
|
criminally injurious conduct. |
|
|
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|
|
to an application for compensation under Chapter 56B, Code of |
|
|
Criminal Procedure, filed on or after the effective date of this |
|
|
Act. An application for compensation filed before the effective |
|
|
date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the |
|
|
application was filed, and the former law is continued in effect for |
|
|
that purpose. |

|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
