A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a public school's cooperation with certain officers |
|
|
engaged in immigration-related duties. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 1, Education Code, is amended by adding |
|
|
Section 1.014 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 1.014. COOPERATION WITH OFFICER ENGAGED IN |
|
|
IMMIGRATION-RELATED DUTIES. A school district or open-enrollment |
|
|
charter school may not: |
|
|
(1) grant a federal immigration officer or peace |
|
|
officer engaged in immigration-related investigation or |
|
|
enforcement duties access to a district or school campus without a |
|
|
judicial warrant; or |
|
|
(2) disclose in any manner to a federal immigration |
|
|
officer or peace officer engaged in immigration-related |
|
|
investigation or enforcement duties without a judicial warrant: |
|
|
(A) the education records of a student enrolled |
|
|
in the district or school or other information related to the |
|
|
student or the student's family or household; or |
|
|
(B) any information relating to a district or |
|
|
school employee. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
