A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the assistance or cooperation of campus police |
|
|
departments, certain local governmental entities, and personnel of |
|
|
places of worship with federal immigration officers at a place of |
|
|
worship. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 752.053, Government Code, is amended by |
|
|
amending Subsection (c) and adding Subsection (d) to read as |
|
|
follows: |
|
|
(c) Notwithstanding Subsection (b)(3), a local entity or |
|
|
campus police department shall [may] prohibit persons who are |
|
|
employed by or otherwise under the direction or control of the |
|
|
entity or department from assisting or cooperating with a federal |
|
|
immigration officer if the assistance or cooperation occurs without |
|
|
a judicial warrant at a place of worship. |
|
|
(d) The personnel of a place of worship may not authorize a |
|
|
federal immigration officer operating within the course and scope |
|
|
of the officer's immigration-related investigation or enforcement |
|
|
duties to enter the place of worship without a judicial warrant. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
