A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to requiring the election of the governing body of a taxing |
|
|
entity. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 180, Local Government Code, is amended |
|
|
by adding Section 180.011 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 180.011. GOVERNING BODY OF TAXING AUTHORITY MUST BE |
|
|
ELECTED. (a) Notwithstanding any other law, the governing body of |
|
|
any governmental entity, including a political subdivision, with |
|
|
the authority to impose a tax must be elected. |
|
|
(b) Subsection (a) does not apply to a member of a governing |
|
|
body appointed by the governor. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
