A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to requiring a public institution of higher education to |
|
award certain course credit for a dual credit course in computer |
|
science. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter F, Chapter 51, Education Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 51.306 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 51.306. AWARD OF UNDERGRADUATE FOREIGN LANGUAGE COURSE |
|
CREDIT FOR DUAL CREDIT COMPUTER SCIENCE COURSE. (a) In this |
|
section, "institution of higher education" has the meaning assigned |
|
by Section 61.003. |
|
(b) An institution of higher education shall award to an |
|
undergraduate student enrolled in the institution undergraduate |
|
course credit toward satisfaction of a foreign language course |
|
requirement of the institution for the student's successful |
|
completion of a dual credit course in computer science. |
|
(c) This section does not apply if the student's major is in |
|
a foreign language. |
|
SECTION 2. Section 51.306, Education Code, as added by this |
|
Act, applies beginning with students initially enrolling in an |
|
undergraduate program at a public institution for the 2025-2026 |
|
academic year. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
