A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to maintenance of records of independent investigations of |
|
|
deaths in custody in accordance with state record retention |
|
|
requirements |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Amend Government Code Sec. 511.021 by adding new |
|
|
subsection (d) as follows: |
|
|
(d) Independent investigation materials shall be retained |
|
|
as vital records in compliance with Govt. Code 441.180(13)(c). |
|
|
SECTION 2. Effective Sept. 1, 2025 with respect to all |
|
|
records in the custody of state or local agencies on that date. |
