A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to reporting and planning requirements to reduce the |
|
occurrence of sexual assault near the campuses of public |
|
institutions of higher education. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter E-2, Chapter 51, Education Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 51.260 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 51.260. ADDITIONAL SEXUAL ASSAULT REPORTING AND |
|
PLANNING REQUIREMENTS. (a) In this section, "institution of |
|
higher education" has the meaning assigned by Section 61.003. |
|
(b) Not later than June 1 of each even-numbered year, an |
|
institution of higher education, in consultation with appropriate |
|
law enforcement entities, shall prepare and submit to the |
|
coordinating board a written report that includes: |
|
(1) information on incidents of sexual assault |
|
occurring within a two-mile radius of a campus of the institution |
|
during the preceding two years, including the rate of those |
|
incidents; and |
|
(2) a detailed plan to reduce the rate described by |
|
Subdivision (1). |
|
(c) Not later than January 1 of each odd-numbered year, the |
|
coordinating board shall prepare and submit to the legislature a |
|
written report that summarizes the most recent reports submitted by |
|
institutions of higher education under Subsection (b). The report |
|
must include any recommendations for legislative or other action to |
|
reduce the rates of sexual assault occurring near the campuses of |
|
institutions of higher education. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
