A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to public water systems in rural counties. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

|
SECTION 1. Chapter 341, Health & Safety Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Section 341.051 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 341.051. PUBLIC WATER SYSTEMS IN RURAL COUNTIES. (a) |
|
|
In this section, "rural county" means a county with a population |
|
|
less than 50,000. |
|
|
(b) Establishments catering to the public in rural counties |
|
|
may meet the requirements of the federal Safe Drinking Water Act by |
|
|
alternative means such as chlorination or UV water treatment |
|
|
systems or other systems approved by the commission. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
