A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a sick day pool of school employees in the state. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 22.003, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (g) to read as follows: |
|
|
(g) The accrued sick leave days of an employee of a school |
|
|
district or charter school, upon retirement, shall be transferred |
|
|
into a sick leave bank. This bank may be used by any school district |
|
|
or charter school employee who has exhausted their granted sick |
|
|
leave days, subject to any existing policies implemented by the |
|
|
school district or charter school. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This section shall not preempt any existing |
|
|
policies of a public school district or charter school regarding |
|
|
the disbursement of accumulated sick days of retired employees. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
