CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, The National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986 |
|
created a no-fault procedure called the National Vaccine Injury |
|
Compensation Program to help protect vaccine manufacturers from |
|
lawsuits asserting that injuries and deaths were caused by |
|
vaccinations; and |
|
WHEREAS, With the implementation of the law, the Vaccine |
|
Adverse Event Reporting System was introduced, enabling consumers |
|
and health care practitioners to report side effects that occurred |
|
after vaccine administration; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through February 2025, approximately $5.3 billion |
|
has been paid out to victims of vaccine injury through the National |
|
Vaccine Injury Compensation Program; and |
|
WHEREAS, According to a study conducted by Harvard Pilgrim |
|
Health Care, less than one percent of vaccine adverse events are |
|
reported to the Food and Drug Administration, allowing for many |
|
cases to go undocumented and unacknowledged; and |
|
WHEREAS, Injuries caused by vaccines inflict a significant |
|
physical and emotional toll on individuals and their loved ones, |
|
and the residents of Texas can benefit from learning more about this |
|
important health care issue; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby designate June 3 as Vaccine Injury Awareness Day; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section |
|
391.004(d), Government Code, this designation remain in effect |
|
until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally |
|
passed by the legislature. |
