CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, The Jocelyn Nungaray National Wildlife Refuge, |
|
situated on the Texas Gulf Coast east of Houston, was officially |
|
dedicated at a ceremony held on April 24, 2025; and |
|
WHEREAS, In June 2024, Jocelyn Nungaray tragically lost her |
|
life at the age of 12; following an executive order issued by |
|
President Donald J. Trump, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug |
|
Burgum signed a secretary's order on March 10, 2025, renaming the |
|
Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge to the Jocelyn Nungaray National |
|
Wildlife Refuge in honor of the young girl; and |
|
WHEREAS, Known for her kindness, generosity, and love of |
|
nature, Jocelyn Nungaray often brought home stray or injured |
|
animals in order to provide them with a sanctuary; the renaming of |
|
the 39,000-acre refuge, which supports a wide variety of birds, |
|
mammals, amphibians, and insects, pays tribute to Jocelyn's |
|
compassion for all living beings; and |
|
WHEREAS, While the life of Jocelyn Nungaray ended far too |
|
soon, her spirit will forever live on through the legacy of |
|
conservation at the Jocelyn Nungaray National Wildlife Refuge; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby commemorate the dedication of the Jocelyn Nungaray National |
|
Wildlife Refuge. |
