A JOINT RESOLUTION
|
|
proposing a constitutional amendment providing that federal |
|
authority to regulate the manufacture, possession, sale, or use of |
|
firearms, firearm accessories, and ammunition in this state is not |
|
recognized by this state. |
|
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 23, Article I, Texas Constitution, is |
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 23. (a) Every citizen shall have the right to keep and |
|
bear arms in the lawful defence of himself or the State; but the |
|
Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of |
|
arms, with a view to prevent crime. |
|
(b) This state does not recognize any authority purportedly |
|
held by the federal government to regulate the manufacture, |
|
possession, sale, or use of firearms, firearm accessories, and |
|
ammunition in this state. |
|
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 2025. |
|
The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the |
|
proposition: "The constitutional amendment providing that federal |
|
authority to regulate the manufacture, possession, sale, or use of |
|
firearms, firearm accessories, and ammunition in this state is not |
|
recognized by this state." |
