A JOINT RESOLUTION
|
|
|
proposing a constitutional amendment establishing an individual's |
|
|
right to personal reproductive autonomy. |
|
|
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Article I, Texas Constitution, is amended by |
|
|
adding Section 37 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 37. Each individual residing in this state has the |
|
|
right to personal reproductive autonomy, and this state may not |
|
|
restrict or prohibit the exercise of that right, including the |
|
|
right to: |
|
|
(1) obtain an abortion on or before 24 weeks |
|
|
post-fertilization; |
|
|
(2) obtain an abortion necessary to preserve the life |
|
|
or health of a pregnant individual who is more than 24 weeks |
|
|
post-fertilization, or in accordance with an exception provided by |
|
|
general law; and |
|
|
(3) obtain and use contraception. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|
|
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 2025. |
|
|
The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the |
|
|
proposition: "The constitutional amendment establishing an |
|
|
individual's right to personal reproductive autonomy." |
