R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Chi-mei Lin is retiring as chief executive officer |
|
of the Chinese Community Center in Houston in December 2024, |
|
drawing to a close more than two decades of dedicated service to the |
|
agency; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Lin was first hired at the Chinese Community |
|
Center as associate executive director in 1999; since becoming CEO |
|
of the organization in 2002, she has played an important role in |
|
guiding its evolution from a language school to an agency that |
|
provides job training and senior services to residents of all |
|
ethnicities; along the way, she has worked tirelessly to foster |
|
collaborations with local and national initiatives to better serve |
|
the Greater Houston area and amplify the voices of Asian Americans |
|
in the community; and |
|
WHEREAS, Under Ms. Lin's leadership, the CCC Child |
|
Development Center achieved national accreditation from the |
|
National Association for the Education of Young Children, a |
|
designation that has been awarded to fewer than five percent of |
|
childcare centers in Houston; moreover, she has been instrumental |
|
in establishing the CCC Financial Opportunity Center and in |
|
overseeing the successful completion of two major building |
|
campaigns that have greatly expanded and enhanced the CCC |
|
facilities; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Xindian, Taiwan, Ms. Lin studied English |
|
and education at National Taiwan University before moving to the |
|
United States to further her knowledge of Western education and |
|
administration standards at the University of Michigan; she went on |
|
to acquire professional experience as a YMCA after-school teacher |
|
and as an employee at Disaster Recovery Coalition of America |
|
WorkWell; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Chinese Community Center has benefited |
|
immeasurably from Chi-mei Lin's vision, expertise, and unwavering |
|
dedication to the agency's mission, and the impact of her |
|
contributions will be felt for many years to come; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Chi-mei Lin on her retirement as |
|
chief executive officer of the Chinese Community Center and extend |
|
to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Lin as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
