R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Merle Truesdell of San Angelo celebrated her 100th
  birthday on January 2, 2025, to the great delight of her family and
  friends; and
         WHEREAS, The former Merle Murphy was born in Breckenridge in
  1925; she lived in Iraan in Pecos County as a teenager, and her
  first job was working in the school cafeteria during her senior year
  of high school; and
         WHEREAS, On June 30, 1943, this beloved woman exchanged
  wedding vows with Tom Truesdell in Sheffield; he was drafted the
  following year, entered the U.S. Navy, and was stationed in
  San Diego and Oakland during World War II; Mrs. Truesdell traveled
  by train from West Texas to visit her husband in California, and
  later in the war, she lived with her mother in Tulsa, Oklahoma;
  there, she took tremendous pride in her contributions as a "Rosie
  the Riveter" through her dedicated work at a bomber plant; and
         WHEREAS, Merle and Tom Truesdell raised four children, Lois
  Nell, Thomas Lee, Mary Beth, and Lisa, and the couple shared 43
  happy years together before his passing in 1986; today,
  Mrs. Truesdell is the matriarch of a fine family that has grown to
  include 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2
  great-great-grandchildren; over the years, she has instilled in her
  children and grandchildren the enduring values of faith and
  kindness as well as a sure sense of right and wrong; her favorite
  hobbies have included sewing clothes and quilts, and today she
  enjoys time spent with friends and neighbors, taking in the beauty
  of sunsets and sunrises; and
         WHEREAS, A source of wisdom and inspiration, Merle Truesdell
  has witnessed a panorama of change during a historic century, and
  her 100th birthday offers a welcome opportunity for her loved ones
  to acknowledge the special place she holds in their hearts; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Merle Truesdell on the joyous
  occasion of her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes
  for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Truesdell as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
