R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which is
  observed on January 27, provides an important opportunity to pay
  tribute to those who perished in the Holocaust and to those who
  survived the atrocities committed by the German Nazi regime; and
         WHEREAS, The Holocaust was the systematic state-sponsored
  persecution and murder of approximately six million Jews by Nazi
  Germany and its collaborators during World War II, and millions of
  others, including Roma, Poles, disabled individuals, LGBTQ
  individuals, Soviet prisoners of war, and political dissidents,
  were also targeted; and
         WHEREAS, January 27, 2025, marks the 80th anniversary of the
  liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau German Nazi concentration and
  death camp in 1945; the United Nations General Assembly declared
  January 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day in 2005 and
  has chosen "Holocaust Remembrance and Education for Dignity and
  Human Rights" as the theme for the 2025 observance; and
         WHEREAS, Antisemitism and violence against Jewish people
  remain serious threats in our society; in 2023, the Anti-Defamation
  League tabulated nearly 9,000 antisemitic incidents across the
  United States; the ADL recently published a report finding that
  according to a global survey almost half of the world's adult
  population, an estimated 2.2 billion people, harbor deeply
  entrenched antisemitic attitudes; the survey also found that 20
  percent of respondents worldwide have not heard about the
  Holocaust; and
         WHEREAS, Through a deeper understanding of one of the darkest
  chapters in history, we can be better prepared to stand ever
  vigilant against the forces of prejudice and hatred, and the
  observance of International Holocaust Remembrance Day serves to
  unite us in reaffirming our steadfast commitment to upholding our
  common humanity; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate January 27, 2025, as International
  Holocaust Remembrance Day.
