R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to |
|
a close with the passing of admired educator George James Brown of |
|
Mount Pleasant on December 30, 2023, at the age of 86; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Selma Leroy and Ethel Belle Brown, George |
|
Brown was born in Austin on September 16, 1937, and he grew up with |
|
the companionship of a sister, Cherie; he earned his bachelor's |
|
degree from The University of Texas at Austin and his master's |
|
degree from Texas A&M University; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Brown enjoyed a long and rewarding career in |
|
education, proudly serving numerous school districts as a teacher |
|
and coach; he went on to become the owner of Jackson Business |
|
College, a consultant for the Texas Education Agency, and the |
|
superintendent of Harts Bluff Independent School District, and he |
|
ultimately was appointed deputy executive director of the TEA |
|
Region 8 Education Service Center before retiring in 2001; |
|
co-founder of the Texas Rural Education Association and president |
|
of the National Rural Education Association, he championed the |
|
needs of students in rural communities; in addition, he was a member |
|
of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and served on its |
|
legislative committee; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2004, Mr. Brown married his wife, Janice, and the |
|
couple shared a rewarding union that spanned nearly two decades; he |
|
took great joy in their blended family, which grew to include their |
|
six children, Kara, Keith, Kevin, Greg, Davey, and Mickey; over the |
|
years, he became a devoted grandfather to numerous grandchildren |
|
and great-grandchildren; a man of faith, he found solace and |
|
strength in his Baptist beliefs; and |
|
WHEREAS, George Brown made contributions of lasting value |
|
through his tireless efforts in behalf of public education, and |
|
although he will be deeply missed, those he left behind will cherish |
|
their memories of his warmth, kindness, and compassion; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of George James Brown and |
|
extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |
|
Janice Brown; to his children, Kara Campbell and her husband, |
|
Tracey, Keith Brown and his wife, Darlyn, Kevin Brown, Greg Lewis |
|
and his wife, Kim, Davey Lewis and his wife, Jessica, and Mickey |
|
Lewis and his wife, Katie; to his 14 grandchildren and 4 |
|
great-grandchildren; and to his many other relatives and friends; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of George |
|
Brown. |
