R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, Taek and Nancy Kim have
  been the owners of the Pulga de Alamo, one of the largest and
  busiest flea markets in the Rio Grande Valley; and
         WHEREAS, In 1996, Mr. and Mrs. Kim purchased the Pulga de
  Alamo, which spanned 28 acres at the time, and its structures were
  dated; over the years, they worked to expand the market to its
  current size of more than 70 acres, and with its estimated 1,500
  vendors, the shopping destination generates hundreds of jobs
  annually; and
         WHEREAS, The pulga, the Spanish word for "flea," has also
  become a one-of-a-kind dance hall; on the weekends, its main floor,
  known as El Domo, is filled with dancers in unique attire who draw
  people in from near and far to see the spectacle; amassing hundreds
  of thousands of followers on social media, the dancers and the
  market alike are now a viral sensation; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Kim, who is an immigrant from South Korea, and
  Mrs. Kim, who is Mexican American, both grew up in the Rio Grande
  Valley, and as children they each frequented local flea markets to
  sell various items; the couple owned the Mercedes Flea Market prior
  to purchasing the Pulga de Alamo, and these lifelong experiences
  have given them the vision to grow the pulga to where it is today;
  and
         WHEREAS, Through their hard work and dedication, Taek and
  Nancy Kim have transformed the Pulga de Alamo into a renowned center
  for commerce and culture in the Rio Grande Valley, and they are
  indeed deserving of recognition for all that they have achieved;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Taek and Nancy Kim on their 29
  years as the owners of the Pulga de Alamo and extend to them sincere
  best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Kim as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
