R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, David Winfield Killam of Laredo has been selected as |
|
the 2025 Mr. South Texas honoree by the Washington's Birthday |
|
Celebration Association in recognition of his contributions to the |
|
growth and development of the region; and |
|
WHEREAS, A leader in his community, Mr. Killam has applied |
|
his business acumen in a broad range of fields, including oil and |
|
gas exploration, real estate development, and ranching; he holds a |
|
bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at Austin and a |
|
certificate in ranch management from Texas Christian University; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Killam has long demonstrated a steadfast |
|
commitment to the quality of life in Laredo; as an underwriter of |
|
residency programs at the University of the Incarnate Word and the |
|
Texas A&M University College of Medicine, he has helped to enhance |
|
medical training and health care access; he further supports higher |
|
education through various scholarship programs, and his family's |
|
significant donation of land to Texas A&M International University |
|
led to the creation of its 300-acre campus; in addition, the Killams |
|
have contributed easements and land for essential infrastructure |
|
projects, such as water lines, roads, and highways, advancing |
|
Laredo's economic prosperity; and |
|
WHEREAS, Active in a number of organizations, Mr. Killam has |
|
held leadership positions with the Texas Oil & Gas Association, the |
|
Texas State History Museum Foundation, and the Young Presidents' |
|
Organization; he is also a champion of stewardship and conservation |
|
efforts, serving as chair of the advisory board of the Caesar |
|
Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute, which named him the 2023 South |
|
Texan of the Year; in recognition of his work, he has received |
|
numerous other accolades, including a Lone Star Land Steward Award |
|
from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and a Leopold |
|
Conservation Award from the Sand County Foundation; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through his professional and philanthropic |
|
endeavors, David Killam has made a lasting, positive difference in |
|
the Laredo community, and he is richly deserving of this special |
|
recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate David Winfield Killam on his |
|
selection as Mr. South Texas by the Washington's Birthday |
|
Celebration Association and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Killam as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
