R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Mario K. Castillo is being inaugurated as the fifth |
|
|
chancellor of Lone Star College on February 14, 2025; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The first Latino to hold the post, Mr. Castillo was |
|
|
appointed chancellor of Lone Star College in August 2023; since |
|
|
joining the institution in 2015, he has served in a number of |
|
|
prominent roles, including general counsel, vice chancellor, and |
|
|
chief operating officer, as well as interim president of |
|
|
LSC-Kingwood; during his tenure as chancellor, he has worked to |
|
|
prioritize student success, reshaping policies and procedures and |
|
|
creating numerous scholarship and internship opportunities; |
|
|
moreover, he regularly meets with students to offer career advice; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Previously, Mr. Castillo was a partner at Monty & |
|
|
Ramirez, LLP, where he practiced labor and employment law; he has |
|
|
litigated cases in state and federal courts, appellate courts, and |
|
|
the Texas Supreme Court, and he was the briefing attorney for the |
|
|
Honorable Felix Recio Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the |
|
|
Southern District of Texas; in addition, his peer-reviewed articles |
|
|
have been published by Baylor Law School and the University of |
|
|
Houston Law Center; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A first-generation American and the first in his |
|
|
family to attend college, Mr. Castillo holds a bachelor's degree in |
|
|
government from The University of Texas at Austin and a juris doctor |
|
|
degree from Indiana University Bloomington Maurer School of Law; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under the outstanding stewardship of Mario |
|
|
Castillo, Lone Star College is poised for continued innovation and |
|
|
achievement in the years to come, and it is a privilege to join in |
|
|
honoring him at this time; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Mario K. Castillo on his |
|
|
investiture as chancellor of Lone Star College and extend to him |
|
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Castillo as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
