R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Columbus High School football team closed out an
  unforgettable year in triumphant fashion by winning the 2024
  University Interscholastic League 3A Division 1 state championship
  on December 19; and
         WHEREAS, Following a stellar performance in the regular
  season, the Cardinals dispatched playoff opponents C. H. Yoe,
  Westwood, Yoakum, and Franklin High Schools to reach the state
  semifinals; there, Columbus earned its first trip to the state
  title game with a decisive 49-6 win over Edna High School; and
         WHEREAS, Taking the field at AT&T Stadium in Arlington for
  the 3A Division 1 final, Columbus faced the defending champion,
  Malakoff High School; inspired by the memory of fallen teammate
  Aleks Medrano, who passed away in October, the Cardinals scored
  touchdowns on all five of their first-half possessions to hold a
  commanding 34-7 lead at halftime; they continued to dominate in the
  second half, tacking on two more touchdowns and cruising to a 48-14
  victory; and
         WHEREAS, Leading the Columbus attack was senior quarterback
  Adam Schobel, who was selected as the Offensive Most Valuable
  Player after passing for 261 yards and two touchdowns as well as
  scoring on a two-yard run; senior linebacker John Schobel recorded
  10 tackles and 3 sacks en route to being named the Defensive MVP;
  senior running back Grayson Rigdon also excelled in the game,
  scoring four touchdowns and tallying 119 yards rushing; and
         WHEREAS, The success enjoyed by Columbus in 2024 was the
  result of an exceptional team effort; under the able leadership of
  head coach Matt Schobel and his staff, each player on the roster
  made valuable contributions that enabled the Cardinals to realize
  their long-awaited goal of hoisting the state championship trophy;
  and
         WHEREAS, In capturing their school's first state title, the
  members of the Columbus High football team demonstrated remarkable
  skill and determination, and they are a source of tremendous pride
  to their many supporters in the community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Columbus High School football
  team on winning the 2024 UIL 3A Division 1 state championship and
  extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
