R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Annette Addo-Yobo was crowned Miss Texas 2024 at the |
|
competition held at the Charles W. Eisemann Center for Performing |
|
Arts in Richardson on June 29, 2024; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Addo-Yobo participated in the statewide event as |
|
Miss Southlake, and she made history by becoming the first |
|
foreign-born contestant and the first Ghanaian to win the title of |
|
Miss Texas; and |
|
WHEREAS, In January 2025, Ms. Addo-Yobo represented the Lone |
|
Star State at the Miss America competition, where she was named |
|
first runner-up; in her role as Miss Texas, she serves as the |
|
statewide ambassador for Texas Cares for Children, a nonprofit |
|
organization that encourages leadership, education, and character |
|
development among the state's youth; she is also using her platform |
|
to promote safety, awareness, and education in behalf of people |
|
with autism spectrum disorder through her service initiative, The |
|
S.P.A.R.K. Project; her many endeavors in support of this |
|
worthwhile cause include advocating for policies at the local, |
|
state, and national levels and working with organizations such as |
|
Autism Speaks, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and the |
|
Organization for Autism Research; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Ghana and raised in Canada and the U.S., |
|
Ms. Addo-Yobo became a citizen of the United States in 2022, and she |
|
holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from The University of |
|
Texas at Dallas; she is currently pursuing a master of business |
|
administration degree at Lamar University, and she plans to attend |
|
South Texas College of Law Houston; and |
|
WHEREAS, Annette Addo-Yobo has proven herself to be a |
|
deserving recipient of the Miss Texas crown, and the hard work, |
|
determination, and perseverance that she has demonstrated in |
|
attaining this goal are certain to serve her well in her future |
|
endeavors; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Annette Addo-Yobo on her selection |
|
as Miss Texas 2024 and extend to her sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Addo-Yobo as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
