R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Geronimo M. Rodriguez Jr. of Austin retired as chief |
|
advocacy officer of Ascension Texas on January 31, 2025, drawing to |
|
a close nearly two decades of exemplary service to the health care |
|
system; and |
|
WHEREAS, After joining Ascension Texas in 2006, Mr. Rodriguez |
|
expanded systemwide efforts in such areas as cultural competence, |
|
workforce development, and civic engagement; his many |
|
responsibilities included establishing a hospital-based violence |
|
intervention program, managing a human trafficking education |
|
initiative, and serving as executive leader of the emergency |
|
medical response unit; he previously held prominent roles with the |
|
White House Office of Legislative Affairs, the Presidential |
|
Personnel Office, and the U.S. Department of Labor Office of the |
|
Solicitor; and |
|
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Rodriguez has been a |
|
member of such organizations as the St. Edward's University Board |
|
of Trustees, the Austin Community Foundation Board of Governors, |
|
and the Hector and Gloria Lopez Foundation; he has received |
|
numerous accolades, among them a 2024 Neighborhood Builders award |
|
from Bank of America and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the |
|
Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and he was named the |
|
2023 Legacy Leader by the Young Hispanic Professional Association |
|
of Austin; in addition, he coauthored the chapter "The Importance |
|
of Diversity in a Healthcare Organization" from the book Hospitals: |
|
What They Are and How They Work; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Alamo, Mr. Rodriguez graduated from |
|
St. Edward's University; he went on to attend the Maxwell School of |
|
Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University and earn his |
|
juris doctor degree from The University of Texas at Austin School of |
|
Law; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through his dedication, professionalism, and |
|
commitment to excellence, Geronimo Rodriguez has greatly benefited |
|
his fellow Texans, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career |
|
well spent as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Geronimo M. Rodriguez Jr. on his |
|
retirement as chief advocacy officer of Ascension Texas and extend |
|
to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Rodriguez as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
