R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority |
|
Day at the State Capitol is taking place on February 11, 2025; and |
|
WHEREAS, CCRTA operates a unique mix of transportation |
|
systems to serve the needs of the Corpus Christi area, including |
|
traditional fixed-route bus service, park-and-ride service, |
|
paratransit service, downtown circulators, van pools, visitor |
|
shuttles, emergency evacuation services, critical transportation |
|
for area warming and cooling centers, and various special event |
|
services; and |
|
WHEREAS, The organization has demonstrated excellence in |
|
emergency preparedness and bus security, and it partners with law |
|
enforcement and first responders to provide emergency |
|
transportation services; among its many achievements, CCRTA earned |
|
two national Gold Awards from the American Public Transportation |
|
Association for its efforts in assisting with evacuations during |
|
hurricanes and local emergencies; in addition, the organization |
|
leads initiatives to combat human trafficking by training |
|
employees, raising public awareness, and collaborating with |
|
advocacy groups to enhance community safety; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through its involvement in the South Texas Military |
|
Facilities Task Force, CCRTA supports the military community, and |
|
it provides job opportunities for veterans and enhances regional |
|
mobility for service members and civilian employees; the |
|
organization also furthers economic development in South Texas by |
|
offering customized transportation for major employers, supporting |
|
visitor development, and investing in transit infrastructure for |
|
future growth; and |
|
WHEREAS, CCRTA has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to |
|
investing in natural gas and low-emission technologies that reduce |
|
air pollution and enhance air quality throughout the region, which |
|
is a critical area for refinery operations, shipping, and |
|
manufacturing; through its efforts, the organization has helped the |
|
region remain the only industrialized region in the country that is |
|
not in nonattainment status for air quality; and |
|
WHEREAS, CCRTA serves as a lifeline for senior citizens, |
|
individuals with disabilities, veterans, students, and |
|
transit-dependent residents; the organization works to ensure that |
|
all persons in the South Texas community have access to health care, |
|
employment, education, and other quality-of-life opportunities; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, By providing local residents with a robust and |
|
sustainable transportation network, CCRTA is making a vital |
|
contribution to the Corpus Christi area, and the organization is |
|
indeed deserving of recognition for its outstanding service; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize February 11, 2025, as Corpus Christi |
|
Regional Transportation Authority Day at the State Capitol and |
|
extend a warm welcome to the visiting delegation. |
