R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Many proud residents of Uvalde County are gathering
  in Austin on February 13, 2025, in celebration of Uvalde County Day
  at the State Capitol; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1856, the county was named in honor of
  Spanish general Juan de Ugalde; once a rugged frontier, this land
  midway between San Antonio and the Amistad International Reservoir
  was inhabited by Native Americans before the arrival of Spanish
  explorers; and
         WHEREAS, Farmers and ranchers settled the area in the
  mid-19th century, drawn by fertile land and abundant natural
  resources; they persevered despite conflicts and the challenge of
  taming a wilderness; as it grew, the county became known
  internationally for sheep, cattle, honey, and other agricultural
  products; and
         WHEREAS, Communities such as Knippa, Cline, Montell, Utopia,
  Concan, Reagan Wells, and Sabinal developed unique identities while
  contributing to the prosperity of the county; the city of Uvalde,
  the county seat, has been home to many influential figures; John
  Nance "Cactus Jack" Garner, the 32nd vice president of the United
  States, played a vital role in shaping both state and national
  politics, and his legacy is still celebrated at local events;
  former Texas governor Dolph Briscoe Jr. left an enduring imprint,
  and his contributions are preserved at the Briscoe Ranch and in the
  Briscoe Art and Antique Collection; and
         WHEREAS, The county's striking landscape has long attracted
  hunters, adventurers, and others; the Nueces, Leona, Sabinal, and
  Frio Rivers wind through scenic topography, and the many popular
  destinations include Garner State Park and Cooks Slough Sanctuary
  and Nature Park; and
         WHEREAS, Residents of Uvalde County cherish a deep connection
  to their land, and they carry on a tradition of resilience, unity,
  and innovation as they honor their past while working toward an even
  brighter future; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize February 13, 2025, as Uvalde County
  Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation
  sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and memorable stay in Austin.
