R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Audubon Texas Day is taking place on February 19, |
|
2025, at the State Capitol in celebration of the 120th anniversary |
|
of the National Audubon Society; and |
|
WHEREAS, The state office of the National Audubon Society, |
|
Audubon Texas is dedicated to the conservation of birds, wildlife, |
|
and their habitats across the Lone Star State; Texas is home to more |
|
than 579 bird species, making it one of the most ecologically |
|
significant states for avian biodiversity; in addition to |
|
protecting these species, Audubon Texas bolsters the state's |
|
economy through ecotourism, bird-watching, and outdoor recreation, |
|
generating hundreds of millions of dollars annually; and |
|
WHEREAS, Audubon Texas leads innovative conservation efforts |
|
across the state, including a coastal island management program |
|
that dates back to 1923, nature centers in Dallas, Cedar Hill, San |
|
Antonio, and Brownsville, and initiatives that benefit grasslands, |
|
wetlands, and urban environments; and |
|
WHEREAS, This year, the National Audubon Society marks its |
|
120th anniversary, providing an opportunity to celebrate its long |
|
tradition of leadership in bird and habitat conservation across the |
|
country as well as its support of bipartisan policies that further |
|
environmental stewardship at both the state and national levels; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, The mission of the National Audubon Society aligns |
|
with the principle that sound conservation policies are crucial to |
|
ensuring the protection of birds, wildlife, and natural resources |
|
for future generations; the work of Audubon Texas exemplifies the |
|
interconnectedness of conservation efforts, demonstrating that |
|
protecting habitats in the state directly contributes to national |
|
environmental resilience; and |
|
WHEREAS, For more than a century, Audubon Texas and the |
|
National Audubon Society have practiced careful stewardship of |
|
coasts, grasslands, urban territory, and bird populations, and |
|
their invaluable work has earned the admiration and appreciation of |
|
people across the state and beyond; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize February 19, 2025, as Audubon Texas |
|
Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting |
|
delegation. |
