R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Proud residents of Sullivan City are gathering in |
|
Austin on March 6, 2025, to celebrate Sullivan City Day at the State |
|
Capitol; and |
|
WHEREAS, Located alongside the Rio Grande in the southwestern |
|
portion of Hidalgo County, Sullivan City was founded in 1908; it was |
|
named for Captain Ed Sullivan, who owned a ranch in the area that |
|
later became a loading station on the Missouri Pacific Railroad; at |
|
the end of the 20th century, the town's population totaled more than |
|
2,300; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today, Sullivan City is home to nearly 4,000 people, |
|
and its economy benefits from the educational services, health |
|
care, and retail industries; neighboring communities include |
|
Harlingen, McAllen, and Reynosa, Mexico, and residents and visitors |
|
alike enjoy nearby attractions such as the National Butterfly |
|
Center, the McAllen Heritage Center, and Fordyce Nature and Hiking |
|
Trails; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition, the community is ably led by its city |
|
council, which includes mayor Alma Dalia Salinas, mayor pro tem |
|
Ramon Moreno, and members Rene Peña, Nicholas Cerda, and Ruben |
|
Villalon, as well as city manager Richard Ozuna; and |
|
WHEREAS, The citizens of Sullivan City are working to |
|
preserve the best of their past while building a future of expanding |
|
opportunity, and it is indeed fitting to honor them for their unique |
|
contributions to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize March 6, 2025, as Sullivan City Day at |
|
the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting |
|
delegation. |
