R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, U.S. Army Brigadier General (Ret.) Joe E. Ramirez |
|
Jr. retired as vice president for student affairs at Texas A&M |
|
University on January 1, 2025, drawing to a close an exceptional |
|
tenure with the institution; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Joe Ramirez earned a physical |
|
education degree in 1979 from Texas A&M University, where he was a |
|
member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band and the Corps of Cadets; he |
|
later obtained a master's degree in management from Webster |
|
University and a master's degree in strategic studies from the U.S. |
|
Army War College; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Ramirez distinguished himself during a military |
|
career of 31 years; he held leadership positions worldwide in joint |
|
and operational commands, and he served as deputy chief of staff for |
|
the U.S. Central Command during Operations Iraqi Freedom and |
|
Enduring Freedom; moreover, he was the deputy division commander |
|
for the 2nd Infantry Division in the Republic of Korea and a deputy |
|
director for the United States European Command in Germany; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2010, General Ramirez returned to Texas A&M as |
|
the 45th commandant of the Corps of Cadets; he dedicated himself to |
|
mentoring the next generation of leaders, instilling in cadets the |
|
values of discipline, honor, and service, and under his direction, |
|
the Corps experienced its most significant growth since the early |
|
1970s; in 2021, he was appointed vice president for student |
|
affairs, and in that role, he continued to positively impact the |
|
lives of students and his colleagues; and |
|
WHEREAS, Civically engaged, General Ramirez belongs to the |
|
boards of such organizations as the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Brazos |
|
Valley, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas, and the |
|
Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce; retirement will afford |
|
him the opportunity to spend more time with his wife, Theresa, and |
|
their five children, four stepchildren, and eight grandchildren; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Joe Ramirez's dedication, experience, and |
|
commitment to excellence have greatly benefited Texas A&M |
|
University and the military community, and he may indeed take pride |
|
in his outstanding record of service as he embarks on the next |
|
exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate U.S. Army Brigadier General (Ret.) |
|
Joe E. Ramirez Jr. on his retirement as vice president for student |
|
affairs at Texas A&M University and extend to him sincere best |
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for General Ramirez as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
