R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The observance of League of Women Voters of Collin |
|
County Day at the State Capitol on February 24, 2025, provides a |
|
welcome opportunity to honor the organization as it celebrates its |
|
50th anniversary; and |
|
WHEREAS, An affiliate of the League of Women Voters of Texas, |
|
LWV of Collin County is a nonpartisan organization that works to |
|
promote the informed and active participation of citizens in |
|
government, to advance understanding of major policy issues, and to |
|
influence public policy through education and advocacy; the |
|
organization was officially established as the League of Women |
|
Voters of Plano in 1976, and over the years, the chapter grew to |
|
serve the entire county; it adopted its current name in 2013; and |
|
WHEREAS, The League of Women Voters of Collin County has |
|
demonstrated a steadfast commitment to political and civic |
|
engagement; in carrying out its mission, the organization registers |
|
voters, organizes candidate forums, studies issues and adopts |
|
positions, and delivers get-out-the-vote presentations; it also |
|
offers a variety of educational resources such as voter guides and |
|
monthly newsletters; and |
|
WHEREAS, An informed citizenry is vital to the continued |
|
strength of our democracy, and for five decades, the League of Women |
|
Voters of Collin County has helped area residents gain the |
|
knowledge and insight required to participate more meaningfully in |
|
our electoral process; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize February 24, 2025, as League of Women |
|
Voters of Collin County Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm |
|
welcome to the visiting delegation. |
