R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Bertha Rendon Delgado retired as a member of the |
|
City of Austin Community Development Commission on February 1, |
|
2025, following nearly a decade of dedicated service; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of East Austin, Bertha Rendon Delgado grew |
|
up in a family deeply rooted in activism and civic engagement; she |
|
became its first member to attend college when she enrolled at |
|
Huston-Tillotson University, and in 2012, she took over as |
|
president of the East Town Lake Citizens Neighborhood Association; |
|
in that role, she has dedicated herself to advocating for residents |
|
of the East Side and preserving murals and other elements of Mexican |
|
American culture; along the way, she has participated in protests |
|
and taken to the front lines to advocate for social issues such as |
|
criminal justice, affordable housing, economic opportunity, and |
|
women's rights; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2016, Ms. Delgado joined the City of Austin |
|
Community Development Commission, where she has continued to |
|
champion housing solutions benefiting residents of the East Side; |
|
over the course of her tenure, she has also distinguished herself in |
|
her work as founder of Arte Texas and Save East Austin Schools, and |
|
she has held prominent leadership and community service roles as |
|
president of LULAC Council No. 4425, as a Travis County elections |
|
deputy judge and deputy registrar, as a member of La Raza |
|
Roundtable, and as a community liaison for The University of Texas; |
|
moreover, she served as chair of Austin ISD's Equity Advisory |
|
Committee and as a member of its Art Task Force Committee and she |
|
has given generously of her time and talents to many other |
|
organizations, such as the State Tejano Democrats and Tejano Music |
|
Alliance of Texas; and |
|
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous honors, Ms. Delgado was |
|
named Woman of the Year for the State of Texas by LULAC in 2022 and |
|
the organization's District 7 Austin Woman of the Year in 2021 and |
|
2022; her accolades further include the 2023 Emma S. Barrientos |
|
Mexican American Cultural Center Excellence Award for Service and |
|
the 2024 Austin Woman Magazine Change Maker of the Year award; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through her myriad civic contributions, Bertha |
|
Rendon Delgado has had a positive and profound impact in the lives |
|
of countless fellow Austinites, and it is a privilege to join in |
|
recognizing an individual who has long been a force for good in her |
|
community; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Bertha Rendon Delgado on her retirement |
|
from the City of Austin Community Development Commission and extend |
|
to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Rendon Delgado as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
