R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Members of the Texas chapters of the National Urban |
|
|
League are gathering in Austin on March 13, 2025, for Urban League |
|
|
Day at the State Capitol; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Founded in New York City in September 1910, the |
|
|
National Urban League is the country's oldest and largest |
|
|
community-based movement dedicated to advancing economic and |
|
|
social justice for African Americans and other historically |
|
|
underserved groups; today, the organization has 92 affiliates |
|
|
across the United States; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Every year, programs and initiatives sponsored by |
|
|
the National Urban League and the Urban League movement serve some |
|
|
3.8 million people and generate an economic impact of approximately |
|
|
$1.2 billion; over the past decade, the movement has reached more |
|
|
than 22 million people with its job placement, housing, health |
|
|
care, and education services and its initiatives to promote greater |
|
|
public engagement in our democracy and civic processes; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The National Urban League and its affiliates have |
|
|
worked tirelessly in behalf of justice, equality, and opportunity |
|
|
for all Americans, and the participants in this advocacy day are |
|
|
demonstrating their commitment to championing policies and issues |
|
|
that benefit the public good; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby recognize March 13, 2025, as Urban League Day at |
|
|
the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting |
|
|
delegation. |
