R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The observance of YMCA Texas Youth and Government |
|
|
Day at the State Capitol on February 27, 2025, offers a welcome |
|
|
opportunity to honor this noteworthy program as it celebrates its |
|
|
79th anniversary; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Each year, the YMCA and its extensive programs |
|
|
benefit more than one million Texans of all ages and abilities; in |
|
|
addition, over 40,000 youths in the state annually participate in |
|
|
the YMCA's after-school enrichment programs, summer camps, |
|
|
developmental sports programming, teen centers, and overnight |
|
|
camps; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1946, the YMCA Texas Youth and |
|
|
Government program promotes civic engagement by providing middle |
|
|
and high school students with the opportunity to learn more about |
|
|
state government; participants attend conferences at the State |
|
|
Capitol, where they act as members of a model government, including |
|
|
as leaders in the executive and legislative branches, as attorneys |
|
|
and judges in appellate court cases, as members of the news media, |
|
|
and as lobbyists; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, YMCA Texas Youth and Government has helped shape |
|
|
generations of leaders in the Lone Star State, and the |
|
|
organization's invaluable contributions are indeed worthy of |
|
|
recognition on this special occasion; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby recognize February 27, 2025, as YMCA Texas Youth |
|
|
and Government Day at the State Capitol and extend to all those |
|
|
affiliated with the program sincere best wishes for the future. |
